An auto filling bird bath can save hundreds from dying

Low rainfall is bad for humans but can be the death of some birds. In some areas birds are either dying of thirst or leaving vast areas to the mercy of crop destroying insects. The Arismac Perm-Full bird bath can save our birds and help them to protect our environment.

- A 150lt or 240lt mobile "wheelie" bin (NOT your neighbours)
- A small submersible fountain pump able to pump up to 1.2mtrs high
- A 24 hour timer with four start/stop sequences.
- A shallow (100mm max depth) natural colour concrete dish - 450mm for the 150lt bin; 500mm for the 240lt bin. Do not use plastic, metal or terracotta. Some birds will be frightened away.
- 2 metres of 13mm black polly and 2 elbows.
- Screw mounted male "Snap-On" fitting (Optional) to connect refilling hose.
- Small cistern type float valve (Optional) for long period unattended operation.
CONSTRUCTION

- Open the lid on the bin and use a rubber mallet to remove the lid from the hinges.
- Turn the lid upside down and use the mallet to refit the lid to create a concave lid.
- Use a hole saw to drill a series of 13mm holes in the lid in the lowest part of the upturned lid.
- Install the submersible pump and attached a length of 13mm polly from the output of the pump up through a hole drilled in the lid near the lid hinge.
- Place the saucer on the lid.
- Use the two polly elbows to create a downward pointing spout into the saucer.
- Drill a small anti siphoning hole at the highest point of the spout.
- Fill the Arismac Perma-Full bird bath with water.
- Connect the pump to the timer and set to run four times a day starting before day break.
MAINTENANCE

- Add Western Pygmy Perch to the tank to combat mosquito breeding.
- Wipe the saucer regularly with an old stocking or panti-hose to remove algae.
- Refill tank when level falls below 40litres.
