Jarrahdale stinks of mothballs ... again
-
Once again a powerful smell of mothballs hangs heavily in the air over Jarrahdale. The source of the smell is as usual the Jarrahdale Heritage Park.
After being dumped by Little Creatures who had hinted they might be interested in building a brewery on the old timber mill site, the shire is once again grasping for platitudes. "The Heritage Park is an exciting project with endless potential".
"If only we can get money from state and federal coffers we might be able to do something." the shire intones. "The Heritage Park is a joint project between the S-J Shire the state branch of the National Trust and the worthy citizens of Jarrahdale" a shire voice lectures.
Several phone calls and a street poll in Jarrahdale failed to find anybody at the shire, the National Trust or in the main street in Jarrahdale who had got the vaguest clue about what is happening with the Park.
Several business people expressed absolute disgust with the lack of information and action. "It is gathering dust in the "too hard" basket", said one prominent business owner, "and any attempt get things moving is greeted by apathy and disdain at the shire."
"I couldn't even get a project officer or any body else to return my calls", he said. "So who is going to be stupid enough to pour more development money, time and effort into the current black hole?"
In the meantime nobody is saying what the Little Creatures courtship cost the ratepayers but rumours suggest that it is a not inconsiderable amount. "This is of course not really suprising" the business owner says, "when previous shire dealings with projects like the dam café and the excercise shed are taken into account".
