Synergy to ripoff SmartPower users
-
Western Australian domestic power supplier, Synergy has announced a price increase which will mean that over 16,000 users will have wasted more than $1m installing SmartPower. Some home owners will lose at least $2,000. Synergy has collected much of this money.
Many current SmartPower users who spent up to $2,000 each installing special meters and time switches will be charged at nearly twice the standard electricity rate for power for 6 hours per weekday. In addition SmartPower users will pay a 10% surcharge on standard rates for a further 8 hours every weekday.
This savage impost means that some SmartPower users, especially those who must rely on electricity for water heating, can expect to pay up to 20% more for electricity than the standard rate.
Given that many electricity consumers installing SmartPower equipment in the last three to five years are still well short of recovering their costs this appears to be yet another rip-off which the government must investigate and correct.
Given that many home owners are already paying, through their rates accounts, for the "Great Street Lights Rip-Off" it is well past time that Minister for Energy, Francis Logan became directly involved in the policies and pricing of Western Power and Synergy. The buck stops with him.
