Samsung A412 leads in Rural Mobile Stakes
Whirlpool Forum members setup guide
- The recently released Samsung A412 and prepaid sister the A411 will lead the race to capture the Next-G rural market. Already reports are pouring in that indicate the A412 is supplying service where the rivals can not.
The reports indicate a very much improved reception in metropolitan fringe "dark spots" and rural areas from the Perth Hills to the NSW Central Tablelands.
Some of the phones improved reception can definitely be attributed to the external stubby antenna. An additional external antenna such as a magnetic based car unit can also be plugged directly into the phone to further improve reception and transmission.
The phone is well priced in a range of $439 to $499 depending on the purchase plan. The display is big and the numo keys easy to read, although the alpha keys visabilty could be improved. The software and menu package now clearly leads the field in the price range.
The phones hottest rival is the LG TU500 which is priced at under $300 but lacks some of the useful features of the A412. As an example the A412 will remind you every few minutes that you have an unread SMS the TU500 will not. The TU500 does not have an external antenna.
A car kit is not yet available for the A412 but is certain to appear soon. Your nearest Telstra Shop should be able to fill in the details. (Look for the link on the left side of the Telstra page)
To sum up, the Samsung A412 will almost certainly become the mobile of choice for people who will shortly have to switch from CDMA to Next-G and want a reliable middle of the range telephone.
